Format: 2 hour workshop
Target group: Year 12 & 13 students
Group size: 10 – 30 young people
Topics covered are:
- Introduction to the role of money when living independently
- Student Income: Student loans, Bursaries, Overdrafts and credit
- Student Expenditure: Anticipated living costs as a student, Young people’s estimated figures v. actual student expenditure figures
- Managing Money: Budgeting, Needs v. Wants, Student bank accounts
- Your money: Real life examples of student money scenarios, Consequences of debt and poor money management, Tips and habits for staying on top of your money
Participants are encouraged to give their own views and critically analyse the various financial situations that students are faced with. The workshop is designed to get young people thinking and caring about their finances.
Case Study
Year 12 at Sir John Cass Sixth Form, Tower Hamlets took part in Uni Dosh as they were starting the UCAS application process. Participants found the real life aspect of the session really useful, one student said that:
